Suburban libraries hosting online discussion with anti-racism author Dr. Ibram X. Kendi

The Schaumburg Township District Library and Arlington Heights Memorial Library are among 11 area libraries co-sponsoring an online discussion with best-selling author and historian Dr. Ibram X. Kendi about his book "How To Be An Anti-Racist" from 6 to 7 p.m. Monday, Nov. 9.

Registration is available at SchaumburgLibrary.org to receive a Zoom link to the event.

Kendi is the founding director of Boston University's Center for Antiracist Research. He recently was named one of Time magazine's 100 most influential people.

The conversation with Kendi will be moderated by award-winning journalist Natalie Moore, who covers segregation and inequality for Chicago's WBEZ radio.

"How To Be An Anti-Racist" prompts its readers to think about what an anti-racist society might look like and how everyone can play a role in building it. The book provides insight on how to go beyond awareness of racism to actively contributing to the formation of a truly just and equitable society.

The Schaumburg Township District Library website also is the place to register for follow-up discussions at 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 12, and 7 p.m. Monday, Nov. 16.

Other libraries co-sponsoring the event include the Aurora Public Library, Deerfield Public Library, Glencoe Public Library, Highland Park Public Library, Lake Villa District Library, Northbrook Public Library, Skokie Public Library, Vernon Area Public Library and Wilmette Public Library.
