Secluded Stars: Naperville's Bob Odenkirk revisits 'Rock 'n' Roll High School'
Former Naperville resident and "Better Call Saul" star Bob Odenkirk made a special appearance on the podcast "Recap and Gown."
Co-hosted by Naperville native Brian Crooks, "Recap and Gown" invites guests to watch "movies from back in the day when we were high school and college students to find out what makes the grade and what should've been held back."
Odenkirk chose "Rock 'n' Roll High School," a 1979 comedy that Crooks and his co-hosts had never seen.
Odenkirk helped bring aboard Elmhurst native Richard Whitley to share tales about writing the screenplay and convincing the punk band The Ramones to be the film's featured rock band.
"Watching it for the first time - look - it is not built for a 57-year-old guy. On the other hand, I love The Ramones," Odenkirk said. "The energy that Richard is sharing with us in his stories is on screen."
"This movie absolutely made the grade for me," Crooks said. "I am disappointed that I didn't know about this movie working at Guitar Center."
Noisy new friend
Downers Grove native Denise Richards is in the news for going back to work on the CBS soap opera "The Bold and the Beautiful" amid coronavirus safety protocols.
But Richards' personal news on Twitter and Instagram involves a pug adopted from California's Road Dogs & Rescue.
"He loves his naps almost as much as he loves food," posted Richards alongside a short video of her snoring dog. "hubby named him #ChuckSnores ... wonder why?"
Gaynor honors Reiner
Former Elgin resident and "South Pacific" star Mitzi Gaynor took to Twitter to pay tribute to comedy legend Carl Reiner, who died at the age of 98 last week.
Gaynor tweeted: "What a joyful gift @carlreiner was in my life & in the lives of everyone who enjoyed his towering talent. He was a genius, a good friend, & a true gent. I'll cherish the memory of the times we spent together, & the laughter we shared. My love to his beautiful family & friends."
Redd's dad joke
Former Naperville resident and "Saturday Night Live" star Chris Redd is always fun to follow on Twitter.
On July 5, Redd tweeted: "If the FBI puts me on a watchlist let them know I want a Rolex."
Which prompted comedian Rosebud Baker to respond: "This tweet is the direct result of hanging out with ur dad for a month."
