Long Grove's Woodfire Tavern plans drive-in movies in parking lot
Long Grove village board members have approved drive-in movies proposed for the parking lot of a bar and grill on Route 83.
Under the proposal, Woodfire Tavern intends to host the movies on Friday and Saturday nights. Woodfire, which serves pizza, chops and barbecue, projects 40 to 50 cars would be in the front main east parking lot for drive-in shows viewed on an inflatable screen.
Village President Bill Jacob said he's seen many businesses trying to reinvent themselves since the COVID-19 pandemic and complimented Woodfire for the movie idea.
"Really, nothing surprises me right now," Jacob said. "I just love to see it, I love all the creativity. We just need to do our best to support them."
Guests would hear the movies over an FM frequency in their cars. The plan is for servers to take food and drink orders from the moviegoers in their cars.
Meanwhile, Jacob said the Long Grove board recently authorized him to grant approval for establishments seeking permits for tents and other needs for outdoor service. He said last week's opening for outdoor dining and beverages drew good crowds to places including Enzo & Lucia Ristorante, Buffalo Creek Brewing, Chatterbox of Long Grove and the new Corked Wine Bar.
"Everything that we can do to help the businesses in the village, that's really what I've been pushing for," he said. "And I'm personally doing my part to eat and everything else, either carryout or eating alfresco now, right, which is fantastic."
