Widescreen: Streaming suggestions with our current predicament in mind

We're stuck inside this weekend (and, well, all the weekends for awhile), so we all need recommendations for what to watch from our couches. Here are mine, offered with our current predicament in mind:

If you want to be inspired

And really, who among us doesn't right now?

Disney+ has a real gem in "Togo," a gorgeous true-life film from "Invincible" director Ericson Core about the lead sled dog who helped carry diphtheria medicine across Alaska in 1925. (Yes, a disease-fighting dog. Where's Togo when we need him?) Willem Dafoe plays Togo's stern-but-lovable trainer in a movie that deserved to be seen on an IMAX screen.

Or you can vicariously feel the joy of emerging from years of captivity with the Stephen King classic "The Shawshank Redemption," streaming on Netflix. (I'm just about ready to greet a rainstorm Andy Dufresne-style.)

You can watch Ron Swanson (Nick Offerman) and Leslie Knope (Amy Poehler) in every hilarious episode of "Parks and Recreation" on Netflix, Hulu or Amazon Prime. You can also watch edited versions with a fun group of commentators on the free YouTube channel, The Normies. Associated Press

If it's just you at home

It would be awesome to watch some of your favorite shows with some good friends, wouldn't it? That's where The Normies come in.

Their free YouTube channel is devoted to group reactions to popular TV shows past and present. Make some new virtual friends while watching edited-down episodes of "The Walking Dead," "Stranger Things," "Breaking Bad," "Parks and Recreation," "Lost" ... the list goes on.

(And hey, all of those shows themselves would make for great binge-watching, wouldn't they?)

If your Disney trip was canceled

Luckily, there is a cottage industry of vloggers devoted to documenting every square inch of Walt Disney World's 40 square miles. You can find thousands of free videos on YouTube that take you on virtual ride-throughs, show you full fireworks shows, and give you a taste of the resort's many restaurants.

My favorites come from AllEars.net, specifically those hosted by Molly McCormack, a down-to-earth, extremely funny guide who produces themed videos such as "Is It Possible to Ride Every Ride in Disney World's Magic Kingdom in ONE DAY?"

For a more personal experience, check out TheTimTracker, a daily vlog that tracks Florida residents Tim, Jenn and newborn Jackson as they see the touristy sights in their own backyard.

And if you have a Disney+ subscription, a six-part documentary called "The Imagineering Story" takes you behind the magic. Angela Bassett is our guide as Walt Disney's dream of building a place where kids and adults could have fantastic fun together comes true - and expands to all corners of the globe.

Was your Disney trip canceled? Take a look behind the magic with "The Imagineering Story," a six-part documentary series that offers sights like these Imagineers getting Madame Leota's crystal ball ready for the Haunted Mansion. Courtesy of Disney+

If you want to boldly go somewhere

While I would advise you to steer clear of "Star Trek: Picard," Patrick Stewart's new adventures bogged down by endless exposition and an almost insulting ignorance of what makes Trek great, I would say that a CBS All Access membership is worth the $6.99 a month if you want to watch literally every other Star Trek series - the original, "The Next Generation," "Deep Space Nine," "Voyager," "Enterprise," "Discovery," even the short-lived animated series. They're all there.

The first five of those are also available on Netflix.
