Spotlight: Steel Beam revives 'Love, Loss and What I Wore,' Arlington Heights-based theater debuts

In real life-inspired monologues penned by Nora Ephron ("When Harry Met Sally," "Sleepless in Seattle") and Delia Ephron, women share stories about their relationships and romances in "Love, Loss and What I Wore." Steel Beam Theatre's revival features Diane McFarlin of Sugar Grove, Autumn Burns of Geneva, Elizabeth Hartwig of Schaumburg, Sue Mullins of Hampshire and Jennifer Reeves Wilson of Batavia.

Ghostly musical

Black Button Eyes Productions concludes its season devoted to ghost stories with the Chicago-area premiere of "Whisper House" by composer/lyricist Duncan Sheik ("Spring Awakening") and writer/lyricist Kyle Jarrow ("The SpongeBob Musical"). Leo Spiegel plays Christopher, a young boy who is sent to live with his aunt at her haunted lighthouse after his fighter pilot father is shot down during World War II.

Rose Valley debut

Arlington Heights-based newcomer Rose Valley Theatre presents its inaugural production, the English language premiere of "Sunday Evening," Bulgarian playwright Zachary Karabashliev's examination of the American dream and the American reality. It centers on two families, one an immigrant couple wrestling with past demons and an uncertain present. Artistic director Zlatomir Moldovanski directs.

Love and duty

An officer-involved shooting reveals cracks in the romantic relationship of Cleveland police officers Amina and her Caucasian boyfriend Ryan in "Sheepdog," a story of interracial love and duty to one's community by Kevin Artigue. Shattered Globe Theatre's Chicago-area premiere stars ensemble member Drew Schad and Leslie Ann Sheppard. Wardell Julius Clark directs.
