Single mother's home filled with hand-me-downs

I'm a 26-year-old single mother. The struggle is real! I have not been able to get out of this hand-me-down furniture stage. The couch has actually been handed down twice - from my grandmother to my mother, now to me!

Thanks to the kids, it has also been a trampoline and is broken. Even my entertainment center has been handed down. My 7-year-old daughter and I would love to have furniture to call our own. I would love to have a cozy space and have it not look like a resale shop.

I have a simple rectangular shaped layout. I have an ugly wall air conditioner. I'd like to cover it when not in use. I definitely need help decorating.

The goal for this mom and daughter is to create an inviting, cozy space this family can truly call their own.

Suggestions:

• For this family, we are looking to create a room that will give them a place to relax and enjoy their time together, while providing ample seating to host guests. Smith Brothers of Berne Inc. has numerous collections from which to choose.

• The Smith 5222 Collection provides a sofa that can seat up to three people along with an oversized chair with ottoman - big enough to seat two. The navy blue fabric with complimentary pillows will add warmth to this space.

• Adding a couple of Greenfield side tables by the chair and sofa finish the space.

• But just to make sure this family room is warm, we also suggest our 60-inch Legends Electric Fireplace TV cabinet to replace the old entertainment center. This transitional-styled piece is made from quality hardwood with rubbed bronze hardware. It provides storage as well as function.
