Ross' choice

Good Wine columnist Mary Ross offers her two cents on a wine that she once suggested to buyers, and that's a great bargain, too.

Wine: Sauvignon Blanc

Producer: Los Vascos

Region: Casablanca Valley, Chile

Vintage: 2018

Availability: At wine and spirits chains and some groceries, $9.99

Distributed by: Southern Glazer's Wines & Spirits, Bolingbrook

Tasting Notes: "Can it still be that good?" I asked myself, eyeing my grocer's shelf and a bottle of Los Vascos, which - as a retailer in the previous century - I recommended enthusiastically to customers for great value, flavor and pure expression of its growing region. I'm happy to report, Yes, it's that good! With racy, dry flavors combining citrus, green vegetables and herbs, the wine complements dishes prepared with herbs, veggies, lemon or lime from sushi to Greek Chicken, Steak with Chimichurri to stuffed green peppers. See the label's fine print reading Domaines Barons de Rothchild (Lafite), referencing one of the world's most respected producers, who pioneered modern Chilean winegrowing in 1988, applying their centuries-old French expertise to South American vineyards, to create a dynamic new style and delicious drink.
