Vintage Days coming to Long Grove this weekend

One of the area's most historic villages, downtown Long Grove, is hosting a celebration of all things vintage from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 20-21.

Vintage Days is an open air summer market place for vintage, antique, reclaimed, repurposed, upcycled and handmade goods.

Long Grove is injecting a douse of fun into this new, free, two-day event, with street food, live music, an old-fashioned ice cream social, a penny carnival, craft drinks and other activities.

"There are few places you can go to shop that are completely made up of independent operators," said Ryan Messner, president of Historic Downtown Long Grove Business Association. "In Long Grove, we have many businesses that have amazing, timeless products you can't find anywhere else. Vintage Days gives shoppers a collection of the best Long Grove has to offer in an entertaining, open air market place for the whole family."

Vendors will line Robert Parker Coffin Road, which will be closed to traffic all weekend from the historic covered bridge to the Old McHenry intersection. Live bluegrass and rock music will play continuously to set the vibe, along with drinks from local brewers and wineries.

The penny carnival, old-fashioned games of skill run by kids for kids, is from noon to 2 p.m. Sunday hosted by the Long Grove Historical Society.

Complimentary hayrides will operate from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, and on Saturday will include narration by the Long Grove Historical Society.

An ice cream social Saturday from noon to 4 p.m. will be hosted by Community Church of Long Grove. Antique appraisals will be available at the Long Grove Emporium Sunday from noon to 5 p.m.

The Illinois Wheelmen, an antique high-wheel bicycle club, will be riding through town both days. And the Long Grove Arts & Music Council will be putting on a free show featuring bluegrass band Special Consensus at 4 p.m. Sunday.

Parking is free at Stempel Municipal Lot, 360 Historical Lane, and Archer Lot, 343 Old McHenry Road.
