Theater spotlight: Metropolis entertains youngsters with 'Sleeping Beauty'

Fairy tale onstage

The Chicago Kids Company brings its production of "Sleeping Beauty" to the Metropolis Performing Arts Centre as part of its Stories in Action series for young audiences. After an evil fairy curses the infant princess, three good fairies try to save the day in this production suitable for children in kindergarten through 4th grade.

Comedic moms

The Momedians of Momedy, a stand-up comedy showcase featuring funny ladies who happen to be moms, comes to Lake Villa. Denise Medina emcees the show, which features Kat Herskovic, Colleen Brennan, Jessica Besser-Rosenberg, Eunji Kim and Michelle Krajecki musing on pregnancy, parenthood and more.

Perfect match

Clever Beatrice and confirmed bachelor Benedick refuse to acknowledge their mutual attraction in William Shakespeare's delicious comedy "Much Ado About Nothing." Oak Park Festival Theatre's outdoor production stars Eunice Woods as Beatrice, Bryan Wakefield as Benedick and Peter Sipia as the nobleman who orchestrates the scheme that gets them together. First Folio Theatre artistic associate Melanie Keller directs.
