Sound check: Nashville's Hush Kids bring indie-folk treats to Hey Nonny

Hush Kids at Hey Nonny

You know what they say about having too many chefs in the kitchen. So what happens when you pair a couple of songwriters in one band? Sublime tranquility, if the songwriters of Nashville's Hush Kids are a good example. The duo - Jill Andrews and Peter Groenwald - delivered a light and airy, indie-folk confection with last year's self-titled album. And they promise to weave together similar threads when they take the stage at Hey Nonny this weekend.

7:30 p.m. Friday, June 7, at Hey Nonny, 10 S. Vail Ave., Arlington Heights. $15-$35. (224) 202-0750 or heynonny.com.

Bury Me in Lights EP release

The West suburban hard rock-leaning alternative band Bury Me in Lights has taken the year since 2018's release of its "Moments Between" EP to focus on playing shows and writing new music. Enter "This Coma," a two-song EP frontman Robert Biskoski tackled while struggling with some darker moments in his life. "The songs kind of deal with stages of grief, like regret and acceptance of who I am. Kind of my way of getting those feelings out of me," he said. He and fellow bandmates - Randy Gorecki, Chris Vallaro and Tim Vallaro - will play them live this weekend at BaseCamp Pub, where they'll be joined by Bad Planning, The Burst & Bloom and Radar for an EP release show.

7 p.m. Saturday, June 8, at BaseCamp Pub, 5750 Lakeside Drive, Lisle. $8. (331) 777-4712 or 630productions.yapsody.com.

Noon to 6 p.m. Sunday, June 9, at Bolingbrook Village Hall, 375 W. Briarcliff Road, Bolingbrook. Admission is free; donations are welcome. bolingbrookpride.org.
