Applicants sought for outdoor makeover

It's time to start enjoying the outdoors - finally!

But does your backyard need some attention before you can truly enjoy it?

Why not enter the Daily Herald's Get Your Summer On contest and see if you can get some help updating your outdoor space?

The prize package, valued at more than $5,000, will includes prizes from our contest sponsors.

To enter, you need to submit a photo of your space with some information on what you're frustrated with or how you envision improving your yard.

You have until midnight on May 8 to enter the contest online. Then, beginning May 26, we will feature 15 finalists over five weeks in the Sunday Homes & Garden section.

Read along for five Sundays as finalists get suggestions from our local experts on what to do to make their outdoor spaces more enjoyable. At the end of our coverage, the winner will be revealed, followed by a story on their yard transformation.

Along the way, we will offer tips for readers on topics such as water features for your yard, ground covers for those spots where grass just won't grow, eco-friendly yard improvements, making the front yard or porch as inviting as the backyard, and the emergence of nostalgic, throwback outdoor furniture.
