Jacobs High School's 24-hour musical to raise funds for Misericordia

Jacobs High School will perform its fourth annual 24-hour musical at 7 p.m. Saturday, March 9, at the Jacobs High School auditorium, 2601 Bunker Hill Drive, Algonquin. Doors open at 6 p.m.

All proceeds benefit Misericordia. Tickets are $5. For details, visit www.d300.org/jhs.

Participating Jacobs students show up at the school by 7 p.m. Friday, March 8 and find out what the musical is. They have 24 hours to learn the scripts, dances and songs, and then perform it to a live audience on Saturday.

Senior Mitchell Barrett of Algonquin will direct and cast the show, which will include a cast of 100 students and a crew of 10 students.

This year's musical has special meaning for him, as his cousin Regina Piemonte is a Misericordia resident. Misericordia is a nonprofit developmental home for people with mild to profound developmental disabilities in Chicago.

“Being in charge of the 24-hour musical is one of the best undertakings I have ever experienced,” Mitchell said. “Having the ability to not only raise money for a beautiful charity like Misericordia, but to spread my love and care for my cousin Regina and the many others who share disabilities like hers is something I will cherish forever. All of the hard work and time that has gone into this huge event I know will for sure pay off the night of the show. I will be bouncing off the walls, so excited for the magic that will take place on stage.”

Senior Bella Fiedler says the end result is worth the effort.

“Being a part of the 24-hour musical is one of my favorite events of the year,” Bella said. “My favorite part is not just being able to have a blast with all my friends while singing and dancing, but being able to do all that while raising money for a deserving organization, such as Misericordia. It's spectacular to me that so many students are so incredibly eager to get up and make a difference while being completely sleep deprived, but each and every year they put everything they have into the show, all to benefit others.”

Senior Kailey Connors likes how the 24-hour musical unites the student body.

“My favorite part is seeing different students from all across the school come together for an amazing cause,” Kailey said. “The school is so united through this event and seeing everyone singing instead of sleeping makes me so excited about the reason we do this.”

Raffle baskets and T-shirts will be available at the performance, and there will be a bake sale. For information, call (847) 532-6100.
