Start planning your room makeover

Does your kitchen look "blah"? Are you in need of new living room furniture? Or maybe you're tired of that old bathtub you've lived with for years. Or maybe you have some outdated, or banged up, interior doors that need to be replaced?

Enter your home in the Daily Herald's annual Room for Living contest, and your desired home improvement just might become a reality.

The Daily Herald and its sponsors are offering several prize packages this year, including a never-before-offered prize for the kitchen, as well as a living room or family makeover, and a makeover for the bathroom.

Sponsors for our Room For Living makeover contest include O'Reilly's Furniture, Bath Planet, Kitchen Planet and HomeStory Chicago.

To enter the contest, take a photo of the room you want to remodel, and upload it at events.dailyherald.com/contests, along with some information about what you want remodeled and why.

Make sure the photos show the space that needs spiffing up. We are looking for outdated bathtubs, tired-looking kitchen cabinets, drab doors and frumpy furniture. The deadline for entry is Friday, Oct. 5.

We will narrow down the entries to 15 finalists who will be considered for the prize packages. These 15 finalists' photos will be used throughout the five weeks of coverage in our Sunday Homes and Garden section. Design experts will share tips, suggestions and advice on how they would improve these rooms.

Prize packages are valued at $4,000 to $8,000. As of press time, the confirmed prizes are:

Kitchen Refacing prize package from Kitchen Planet, valued at $8,000.
