Free music a highlight of Lake in the Hills Summer Sunset Fest

The Lake in the Hills Summer Sunset Festival, now in its 18th year, was the brainchild of residents Paul and Debra Mulcahy.

“Their vision was an event that was community- and family-friendly that would not break the bank,'” says Diane Murphy, who is co-chairman of the festival along with Ray Bogdanowski. “The festival has stayed true to its inception and still today, is a free event to attend.”

The festival runs from 3 to 10:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 31; 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 1; and 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 2, at Sunset Park, 5200 Miller Park, Lake in the Hills. It features entertainment, food, carnival rides, wine tasting, a bags tournament, car show, craft fair, a parade, a “Got Talent?” competition and fireworks.

We checked in with Murphy and Bogdanowski to learn more about this year's fest.
