Snow threat cancels some theater productions; show goes on for most
Despite warnings of an approaching storm that could dump as much as a foot of snow on the suburbs, the curtain will rise on most suburban theater productions.
A couple, however, have been canceled. Metropolis Performing Arts Centre marketing director Liz Lach cited safety concerns when she announced the cancellation of Friday's opening of the farce "Boeing-Boeing."
Representatives for the McAninch Arts Center at the College of DuPage in Glen Ellyn announced the cancellation of Thursday and Friday performances of Buffalo Theatre Ensemble's production of "Time Stands Still." The Mac also canceled Thursday's performance of National Theatre Live's "Peter Pan" and Friday's performance of National Geographic Live's "Exploring Mars."
The show will go on at First Folio Theatre in Oak Brook and Marriott Theatre in Lincolnshire, where performances of First Folio's "Women in Jeopardy" and Marriott's "Ragtime" will proceed as scheduled.
Aurora's Paramount Theatre, where "Cabaret" is currently in previews, has not canceled performances, according to spokesman Jay Kelly. But Kelly urged ticketholders to check the Paramount website and social media for updates this weekend.
The curtain will also rise as planned for performances of "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat" at Drury Lane Theatre in Oakbrook Terrace. "Skeleton Crew" at Northlight Theatre in Skokie and "A Moon for the Misbegotten," currently in previews at Writers Theatre in Glencoe.
Metropolis ticketholders can call the box office at (847) 577-2121 to exchange Friday tickets for another performance of "Boeing-Boeing," which runs through March 17.
Buffalo Theatre Ensemble ticketholders should call The Mac box office at (630) 942-4000 to reschedule to another date of "Time Stands Still," which closes March 4.
