Select furnishings that serve dual purposes

My boyfriend and I are new homeowners and this is our first spring and summer with a great backyard! We can't wait to host our friends and family. Unfortunately, we don't have a lot going on in our backyard yet. Our patio table (a hand-me-down) broke in the high winds during the winter.

We'd love a grill for barbecues, or even a small bonfire pit and some additional seating for a relaxing evening outside. We can't wait to make our new house into our home with great memories outside!

A small patio in a nicely landscaped backyard needs to use furnishings with dual functionality.

Suggestions

• Consider comfortable seating that is great for dining al fresco or relaxing around the firepit. The firepit doubles as a dining table.

• A small bar/food cart keeps the party outside but also doubles as a serving surface for meals.

• A patio umbrella offers shade, but also affords a large area to string pretty lights for evening get-togethers.

• Extend the usable space onto the grass with chaise lounges with wheels for easy mobility. An iron leg table between the chaise lounges is lightweight but can withstand the elements.
