Museum looks at the making of the making of WGN classics

Chicago's Museum of Broadcast Communications is running a video online on the making of WGN Channel 9's holiday special "Bozo, Gar & Ray." It's almost too meta, as a making-of documentary about a making-of documentary about three fondly remembered local TV series: "Bozo's Circus," "Garfield Goose" and "Ray Rayner & Friends." Yet it's nonetheless interesting for anyone weaned on those shows. The video streams at the MBC Web site at museum.tv; the "Bozo, Gar & Ray" special airs as usual on Christmas Eve at 9:30 p.m. on Channel 9.

'Remember' recall

Turner Classic Movies is doing its best to turn the classic comedy "Remember the Night" into a rediscovered holiday chestnut on the order of "It's a Wonderful Night," and why not? It stars Barbara Stanwyck as a shoplifter who spends the holidays with her prosecuting attorney, played by Fred MacMurray (four years before they teamed on "Double Indemnity"), and it boasts a script by the great Preston Sturges. It runs multiple times over the month on TCM, starting at 1 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 6.

Elvis is back

The Sundance Channel's musical talk show "Spectacle: Elvis Costello With..." returns for a second season with seven new episodes starting at 9 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 9. Confirmed guests this season include, in no particular order, Bruce Springsteen, John Prine, Neko Case, Sheryl Crow and U2's Bono and The Edge.

Blowed up real good

Steven Spielberg's 2005 remake of "War of the Worlds" was one of the most anticipated movies of the decade - until it turned out to be just a two-hour exercise in blowing things up real good. Then again, what plot better suits the acting of Tom Cruise? Judge for yourself at 8 p.m. today on TNT.
