Letter: Users must help with recycling
I was disturbed by a recent headline that read, "US only recycling 6% of plastic" The report states that plastics are "fundamentally not recyclable," So basically, the onus is on the industry and not on the consumer. However, we users have to do a better job of helping out. Here's a few good tips:
• Don't use the recycle bin as your personal trash can. Buy the sticker.
• Don't put your recyclables in plastic bags. Take those bags back to the grocery store.
• Remove the Styrofoam and any plastic peanuts from the cardboard boxes before recycling them.
• Flatten your cardboard boxes.
• Don't even think about recycling gift wrap or ribbons.
• Be nice to the trash hauler who shows up every week. It's Christmas. Tip them.
Thank you for listening, drive safely, and have a great holiday season.
