Beyond the Byline: Brian Hill, Saturday Photo Editor

Officially, Brian Hill has been a photojournalist at the Daily Herald since fall of 2000, but since 2005, he's also been the Saturday photo editor.

Juggling still images, drone photography, video and occasionally acting as a wordsmith, Hill enjoys finding and bringing the stories of suburbanites to the pages of the Daily Herald.

It is during that time, he has won both national and local awards for photojournalism. Hill has won the prestigious Peter Lisagor award on more than one occasion, as well as awards from the National Press Photographers Association, the Illinois Press Photographers Association and The Associated Press.

A native of St. Charles, Hill has worked and played in the suburbs for all of his life, most recently calling Elgin his home.

Hill attended both Western Illinois and Southern Illinois universities focusing on art and photography, but he cut his teeth at small local newspapers in the Chicago suburbs before coming to work at the Herald.

Hill tries to find time to fit in his hobbies - reading, fly fishing, playing pool and enjoying walks on the beach - while still taking opportunities to watch his two boys play basketball at college and enjoy other activities with his family.

Covering everything from business portraits to sporting events, Hill says that what he enjoys most is meeting and talking to the people he covers.
