Letter: The sanctity of human life
As we mourn the loss of lives in Uvalde, Texas, I, like millions of others, have been crying and praying for the parents of these murdered children. As I was praying, this thought came to me as to why this might be happening:
There are many reasons, but at the top of the list is that most Americans have lost respect for the sanctity of human life. When we as a nation can fight for the right for a woman to kill her unborn child. Why are we shocked when someone takes a military style weapon and kills fourth grade children?
When human life is no more sacred, when there is no fear of offending our God in heaven who created each one of us in the image and likeness of God.
Pastors are afraid to talk about sin from the pulpit lest they offend someone in the congregation. In the meantime, we offend a Holy God by not preaching and teaching the Ten Commandments.
In plain English they are: 1. Choose to love God and serve Him, 2. Put God first before everyone and everything, 3. Reverence the Name of God, 4. Observe the Sabbath as a day of rest and worship. 5. Respect your parents, 6. Value and uphold the sanctity of human life, 7. Maintain the dignity and sanctity of marriage, 8. Respect the property and person of others, 9. Speak the truth, 10. Develop the right attitudes and motives. Be generous. Deuteronomy 5:6-12
