Consider the full picture of Illinois politics

Deborah Fischer's letter in the Jan. 16 Daily Herald regarding Aurora Mayor Richard Irvin's candidacy for governor is startling in its misinformation. Ms. Fischer tries to link Mayor Irvin to every ailment that affects Illinois and because Mayor Irvin may be backed by Ken Griffin, he is a sellout.

First, in what alternate reality is it bad that a progressive Black candidate can run for governor? If George Soros or Bill Gates backed Mayor Irvin, would he still be a sellout?

Next, attempting to solely blame Republicans for the financial woes of Illinois is laughable at best. Let's all remember how the Democratic Party in the person of "Mr. Corruption" Mike Madigan and his super-majority ran Illinois into the ground over 40 years. During Rauner's tenure, he could only sit on the sidelines and watch as Madigan and the Democrats shot down every single one of his budget proposals and proceeded to make their own budgets to spend money we don't have.

Ms. Fischer needs to improve her knowledge of Illinois politics.
