Unified approach needed to defeat virus

A query for the anti-maskers and anti-vaxxers: what are YOU doing to help bring this nationwide (and global, for that matter) pandemic to an end?

Americans love to tout their patriotism and love of this country. We fondly recall how the Greatest Generation sacrificed on the Homefront during World War II and how their contributions led our soldiers to persevere in the war. Did they balk that "meatless Mondays" were an attack on their freedoms? That it was fascist or Socialist to ask people to ration sugar and butter? They instead came together for the good of their nation - to support their soldiers and bring them home safely.

And guess what? It worked. Those folks at home felt they had been an integral part of the resolution of that worldwide conflict. They were true patriots.

Yet, today we have people who seemingly refuse to do, or God forbid, sacrifice anything for the good of the nation, much less the world. Where is your sense of community? Where is your decency?

How will this pandemic ever end if a sizable portion of Americans are content to sit back and watch people die in this war against COVID-19?

Over the course of nearly four years, WW2 took the lives of 418,500 Americans. Here we are, a year and a half in and COVID has already claimed 630,000. What more do you need to convince you it's time to step up and be one of those proud Americans who can say they did what was asked of them during a difficult time in our beloved country?
