Competency is the goal

Many argue for and against big government. What we should pursue is competent government.

Many now are arguing for and against reform of police departments. What we should pursue is competent police departments.

That means sufficient personnel and funding to do the thoughtfully designed job well, combined with training, rules and accountability so that policing is both effective and just.

We have a long way to go.
