Key issue overlooked

As Ronald Reagan stated in one of his Presidential debates, "there he goes again." The June 20 Daily Herald finds Ralph Martire back with another op-ed extolling the virtues of increasing taxes in Illinois. He ignores the fact that the proposed constitutional amendment to institute a graduated income tax scheme was overwhelmingly voted down. The people of Illinois have no interest in increasing their already heavy tax burden. Curiously, throughout his many writings, Mr. Martire conveniently fails to mention the one action that would have the most significant impact on repairing Illinois' finances: pension reform. Until those words appear in one of his columns, it is impossible to take Mr. Martire's writings seriously.
