Food co-op will be good addition to DuPage County

Lombard is a thriving community in so many ways with a wide variety of businesses and services. We now look forward to a new type of store - the opening of the Prairie Food Co-op in 2022 which will be the only grocery co-op in DuPage County. What an exciting opportunity it is for all of us as members and nonmembers as well as residents of nearby towns to be able to support this unique type of store.

I've enjoyed many visits to other food co-ops in the Midwest and have found each of them to have a welcoming and holistic approach to serving their own community. When the idea of this cooperative began over eight years ago, I quickly decided to be a part of it and became a member.

The availability to buy local, sustainable and organic food is like having a farmers market year-round. The quality of that food coupled with the many other products that will be sold is unlike any other grocery store. The location, just south of the tracks on Main Street, will encourage more downtown shopping and attract the commuter population on a daily basis.

The co-op will strive to educate consumers about their food choices and provide great jobs. Cooperatives are owner operated stores that are truly for the benefit of the communities they serve.

Prairie Food Co-op will have a significant and long-lasting impact on the life and economy of Lombard. I encourage everyone to learn more about this new venture at their website, www.prairiefood.com.

With over 1200 other members, it's exciting to be a part of this project that will become a beautiful and much-needed addition to the Lombard community.
