Deserves another term

Driving the main roads in Wheeling, I think we are having an election for U.S. president. But then I realized it was for village president and three trustees. In Saturday's Daily Herald there was an article about the two candidates for president, Patrick Horcher and Mark Smith. Mr. Smith stated he has lived in town 40 years and now it was time to give back. One would think that with a record of 40 years, Mr. Smith had plenty of opportunities, but maybe he was he was busy building two condo developments in town.

It doesn't appear that anyone on his slate has given back either, because his high-priced slick brochures don't tell us anything about them either.

His company running their campaign certainly has sent out a lot of those brochures and put up signs every place where there is some grass. I've been a volunteer for several state and congressional campaigns since 1999, and I never saw that many slick brochures and signs, but then as a builder he probably has the money.

I hope the people running the campaign understand that they have to take the signs down after the election.

I've known Patrick Horcher for a very long time. We haven't always agreed on issues and there have been times we haven't spoken to each other because of them, but I have always found him to be a good public servant as a village trustee and now as president. Under his leadership and with a village manager who grew up in Wheeling we are in a good place.

Unfortunately COVID hit our country. Restaurants and small businesses were closed, opened and closed again, but things are getting better. Mr. Horcher deserves another term as village president, and I ask all voters to vote for him.
