Endorsements: Janowick, Longacre and Piscola for Winfield trustee

Four people are running for three seats on the Winfield village board. Voters will see two incumbents and two newcomers on the ballot.

Don Longacre is seeking his second term on the board, and Marianne Bruss, who was appointed in 2020 to complete the term of former village Trustee James McCurdy who resigned, in part due to health reasons, on Sept. 3.

Longacre, a former Daily Herald executive, served two terms as president of the Wheaton Chamber of Commerce and has been a chamber ambassador for several other suburbs.

Bruss previously served on the Winfield Fire Protection District board and helped lead the effort to get a nonbinding advisory referendum question on the April ballot on whether the village should use tax increment finance funds to build a new village hall.

Challengers Dan Janowick and Debra Piscola are also seeking seats on the board.

Janowick is the CEO of a nonprofit in DuPage County and has served two terms on the Winfield Park District board.

Piscola, who is a senior director of government affairs at Comcast, was appointed by Gov. J.B. Pritkzer to serve on the state's 9-1-1 advisory board last year.

The biggest issue facing this board is working with Northwestern Medicine Central DuPage Hospital on the Town Center redevelopment.

After a trip down a long, winding road, the village is ready to take the next steps with the project with a once-in-a-generation opportunity to reshape downtown.

To do that, the next board is going to have to work together more and work with CDH to make sure that the project is a success.

Longacre, Janowick and Piscola all have a concrete vision of what they would like to see happen with Town Center and we think they'll work well with the rest of the board to help make that vision a reality.

Janowick, Longacre and Piscola are endorsed.
