Fasules, Kalinich and Gould for Glen Ellyn village board

Four candidates are facing off in a rare contested election for three seats on the Glen Ellyn village board.

Months ago, the village's Civic Betterment Party selected Kelley Kalinich, Anne Gould and incumbent Gary Fasules for its slate of trustee candidates. But then a fourth candidate, Jeremy Boynton, decided to run without the party's backing.

Fasules, who is acting village president until the election, has served Glen Ellyn in a variety of ways through the years, including as a member of the plan commission and zoning board of appeals. He says he's seeking another term because he wants to use his experience to help the community during the pandemic.

Kalinich, a retired school superintendent, says she would use her professional expertise to be a steward of the taxpayers' money. She also said she wants to find ways to get regular feedback from members of the community.

Gould, a former business analyst, said she would bring a different perspective to the board and work to promote greater transparency, improved resident engagement and consensus-building.

Boynton, an investment adviser, is promising to be an independent voice on the village board. He says he would strive to be a socially compassionate and fiscally responsible trustee.

We believe Glen Ellyn voters would be well-served by any of the candidates. But Fasules, Kalinich and Gould bring the best combination of experience and ideas. They are endorsed.
