Military service and our presidents

Growing up, we have all been told that we can be anything we want, including president of the United States. However, Congress is of the belief that only politicians are entitled to be president. If Congress cannot respect or work with a president who did not come up through their ranks, then how can the military be expected to respect a president as commander in chief who has not served in the military? Maybe it's time for a constitutional amendment requiring military service of the president and vice president.
