League calls for ouster

In light of the recent events at the Capitol, the League of Women Voters of the United States has taken an unprecedented step. They have called for "the immediate removal of Donald J. Trump from the office of the President of the United States of America via any legal means, including and in order of preference: impeachment with disqualification, the invocation of the 25th Amendment, or resignation." The League's board of directors acted quickly to call on the House of Representatives and the Senate to immediately impeach Trump and remove him from office.

He could not overturn our free and fair election results legally, so he incited his army of followers to attempt an illegal overthrow. As Commander in Chief, he has violated his oath to uphold the Constitution, leaving five dead and many more injured.

For 100 years, the League's nonpartisan and responsible reputation has come from the careful consideration of issues affecting the stability and integrity of our society. The League's rapid and extreme response was necessary as our democracy is in extreme danger. In the words of the League of Women Voters of the United States: "We cannot stand silent, as the actions of President Trump this week have demonstrated he is unfit for office. We will not endure the next two weeks and the potential for further damage to our democracy and the world."

Since Jan. 6, it is obvious President Trump will use force to obtain his goal of remaining in office.

Though this stance may seem controversial, the words and actions of our country's president - especially those of our president - require accountability.
