Term limits proposal

During the past decade, our U.S. Congress (House and Senate) has acted like squabbling siblings, constantly attacking one another and putting the onus of nonperformance onto each others' backs. The American public is not being adequately represented, as expected, by Congress. We the people deserve better. Congress was elected to represent the people and to govern in a way to establish laws and constantly improve the lives of their constituents. This is not happening. All we see is a group of elected officials acting out of spite for one another.

What we need is term limits for Congress. Bill S.J. Res. 21 was introduced last year which would limit the terms of the House to six terms and the Senate to two terms. This would give each elected official 12 years to establish themselves and carry out the work they were elected to accomplish. The idea that limiting each official would cause problems within the ranks is just something each official wants us to believe. Over the life of this country, Congress has seen many "established" politicians come and go. And our country is still alive and surviving.

An old saying goes: "Politicians are a lot like diapers, they need to be changed often, and for the same reason." How true. If these "established" officials refuse to give themselves term limits, then we the voters should give them term limits, by voting them out of office.
