We can't afford to pay teachers as much
In the "Legal Notices" section of the paper Nov. 25 were numerous listings of local school district treasurer reports. Some listed were Aurora, Wauconda CUSD 118, Downers Grove CHSD 99, Bloomingdale District 13, Elgin Area U-46.
I am in awe of the salaries being paid out and the impact on our taxes. I see many making over $90,000.
I understand the importance of good education, but as a taxpayer I also am concerned with the ongoing pension problem in Illinois.
It is amazing so many are being paid exceptionally high salaries for nine months of work and - with the pandemic - working virtually. I hope school districts eventually come to realize they can't keep raising taxes on homeowners, many of whom do not have (or in my case, never had) children in them.
