How do we balance the scale of justice?

Everyone has seen the statue of Justice, eyes blindfolded and holding the balance scale. This is a wonderful concept, but in no way does this resemble justice in our country. Justice is not blind and the scale is not evenly balanced.

Whites have a scale of justice tilted heavily in their favor when the other party is black. The wealthy privileged class have a similar scale tilted in their favor when the other party is poor. Corporations have justice tilted in their favor over individuals. There can be no real justice until everyone is treated equally under the law and we, as a nation are as far from that concept of one law applied uniformly as we have ever been in our history.

How do we change this? We can start by caring, really caring, by working toward instead of just paying lip service to a concept of justice and by only electing candidates who espouse these same values and will work toward equality as a primary goal of their service. Isn't it time?
