Condemning racism

The River Prairie Group of the Sierra Club is concerned about the recent defacing of public property in Naperville with white nationalist symbols and messaging. This is an insult to the values of the Sierra Club and our neighbors. We advocate for environmental quality, strong and resilient communities, and a comprehensive solution to climate change. We believe that the work we do depends on the notion that we are all in this together, for the benefit of all. Our quality of life depends on all of us working together, in a socially just way. As citizens in a democracy, we are all equal regardless of our race, ethnic group, income, or religious affiliation. For these reasons, the River Prairie Group of the Sierra Club must speak up when racism rears its ugly head in our communities. We recognize that the COVID pandemic has shown how vulnerable we can be, and how frightened and worried we can be about our well-being. Even so, we must nurture a positive response to the challenges we face, not ones based on fear.
