No web censorship should be permitted

An article by James Fuller on May 12 assumes that information that is being circulated on social media includes "false information that is detrimental to public health." He goes on to state that such "disinformation" needs to be removed from social media sites to protect Americans. Apparently Lauren Underwood is pushing for this censorship legislation.

The article goes on to say that taking down such information causes controversy related to "conspiracy of censorship" theories. Since when is any form of censorship a conspiracy theory? Censorship is censorship. Why should the government determine what scientific data is fact and what scientific data is not?

All scientific data is open to interpretation, and just because some medical professionals and scientists interpret that data differently than how Dr. Fauci and his associates choose to interpret it does not make it "false information." The fact that the government wants to choose what information the public can have access to is certainly censorship and should inflame every American.

We as a people are certainly capable of forming our own opinions on what is good information and what is questionable. And while an uninformed public is certainly more easily controlled by governing bodies, censorship in any form should never be tolerated by a free society.

I particularly take offense at a statement in the article by Nina Jankowicz that states "people with correct information should not engage with people spreading false facts in a way that shames them ..." I say shame on her for assuming that information that is contrary to her beliefs is false and thereby shameful.

No matter what you believe to be true or false with regards to the information being circulated regarding this pandemic, no voice should be silenced, and I say shame on any public official who would encourage legislation to do so.
