Who are they coming for today?

"First They Came ..." is a poem by Martin Niemoller written as a critique of German intellectuals during the Nazi occupation of Germany in the 1930s that remained silent during the Nazi purging of groups they found undesirable. In today's disturbing times in our country, it still resonates and reads well. I recommend revisiting his work. As true then as it is today it can be adapted to our current events.

First, they came for the Muslims, and I did not speak out --

Because I was not a Muslim.

Then they came for the government witnesses, and I did not speak out --

Because I was not a government witness.

Then they came for the Free Press, and I did not speak out --

Because I was not a member of the Free Press.

Then they came for me -- and there was no one left to speak for me.

If you have not already contacted your senators or your respective congressman/congresswoman, do so. Volunteer for the candidate of your choice. Rally around the Democratic presidential candidate even if it he/she is not your candidate that you support.

Our country, our future, your children's and grandchildren's future depend on all of us to act.
