Thanks, but I'll pump my own gas

An article in the Feb. 12 Daily Herald states that Chicago Democratic Rep. Camille Lilly has introduced a bill in the Illinois House called the Gas Station Attendant Act. This act states that no gas may be pumped unless it is pumped by a gas station attendant employed at the gas station. What?

Illinois legislators have already done a job on the state gas tax. Imagine what the price of gasoline will balloon to if this empty-headed bill becomes law. I presently, along with about 10 other folks, pump my own gas at Costco at any one time. Add about 10 gas station attendants to the mix, along with their minimum $15-an-hour wage plus benefits. With the state unemployment rate at a near record low, this certainly can't be justified as a job creation bill.

If our fine folks in Springfield can't think of anything else to do, maybe they should give a thought to out staggering pension debt, rampant ethics violations and property taxes; and please, give us some credit and get off the soap box about graduated income taxes being "fair" and just affecting the rich. The middle class will wait for the other shoe to drop.
