Gas station law should go nowhere

There have been some awful pieces of legislation put forth in the Illinois House in the past two years, but nothing comes close to the utter stupidity put forth in HB 4571 proposed by Rep. Camille Lilly of Oak Park. The bill if passed into law would require all gasoline pump operation be done by a licensed pump attendant, even if you are filling a gas can for your lawn mower.

This will drive up the cost of a gallon of gas by an estimated $0.25 per gallon and likely put more gas stations out of business. There already is a high turnover of stations because of the high costs to operate and maintain stations. The driving force (no pun intended) for this bill was to create jobs. What, are you kidding?

If that's a good idea, then why don't you pass a law mandating that all roads be built using people with shovels instead of earth-moving equipment.

Call your Illinois representatives and get this bill moved to its rightful place, the garbage can.
