Don't discourage savings for county taxpayers

A recent resolution to reduce some expenses, mileage and health care costs for the benefit of all McHenry County taxpayers stalled due to a board member's need to bring in the board chairman's investigation of an alleged event.

We seem to want to follow the big divide in Washington and not handle issues. We need property tax reduction. We need Springfield to work on it now, not down the road. How we fund public education, has to change. We need it. Can we fund education with the flat-tax concept, and lower that plus-or-minus 70% portion of our property taxes?

But until the state acts, let's not discourage savings in the county government.
