Letter: Was this Christmas or 'Sin Season'?

If it's true that God comes closer to Earth at Christmastime, then this is what God sees: Six of the seven deadly sins being committed by billions of believers.

We ENVY those who can buy better gifts or decorate their homes more elaborately; we teach children GREED by buying them everything on their lists even if we have to go into debt to do it; we exhibit ANGER when shopping in crowded stores or if someone gets ahead of us in line, or takes too long pulling out of a parking space; we eat and drink to excess - exhibiting GLUTTONY at its worst. We LUST after what other people have or take PRIDE in how many expensive gifts we are able to give.

Does it please God when we destroy millions of trees, making them die a slow death from thirst and overheating? Is God happy when we pollute the earth with literally tons of wrapping paper, cards and ribbon? We lie to children about a mythical being who will bring them presents rather than teach them what Christmas really means. We neglect the lonely, the elderly, the homeless who become so depressed they commit suicide. Poor God, having to watch all this.
