A poor excuse for political discourse

If you have driven past the intersection of South Main Street and Northwest Highway in Mount Prospect in the past year, you surely have noticed a group of earnest but goofy political activists gathered on the corner in the evening, performing the following ritual:

Step 1: The group enthusiastically waves their signs at passing cars;

Step 2: Passing drivers honk their horns … over and over again;

Step 3: The motley crew yells "Woo-Hoo!"

I support their right to express their beliefs because I believe in free speech - and because their signs are so bad I can't tell what they actually want. However, isn't the purpose of political advocacy to convince people to change their minds and agree with your position? If it is, getting a bunch of motorists to honk at your "corruption is bad" sign just identifies people who already agree with you … or people who just like to honk.

The only thing this group actually achieves is forcing the residents near that intersection to endure a cacophony of Honk Honk - Woo Hoo's for hours at night.

So, to the Woo-Hoo PAC out there … if you insist on this absurd practice, the least you could do is move your Woo-Hoo location around to give us a break.
