Having fun with old time radio
Concerning Robert Feder's column on Chuck Schaden's memoir about old time radio (June 13), I am a member of District 214's Old Time Radio Troupe.
We meet at Prospect High School three times a year to read original 1940s-1950s radio scripts, acting the parts with character voices and a table full of sound effects -- wind, walking on a gravel path, doorbells, gun shots. etc. After three weeks we select two scripts to perform for free before a live audience at the Forest View Educational Center theater stage. The last weeks are spent in rehearsing those selected scripts.
We have great audiences and our shows help keep alive the appreciation of radio performance art.
Contact District 214 Continuing Education for dates of our next set of open classes in the fall/winter -- directed by Steve Dilly, a former Chuck Schaden performer.
