Officials have duty to be fiscally responsible

Kudos to Douglass Hamilton on his May 22 letter asking lawmakers to look for ways to cut costs. I'm asking the voting public to ask yourself, when was the last time you witnessed a politician propose "expense control/reduction" versus a tax hike?

The people we elect to office need to be held accountable. When they mismanage our money, they cannot feel it is OK to just go back to the trough for more. As citizens, we are expected to manage our household budgets and our representatives should manage our tax money accordingly.

There will be times when a tax increase may be appropriate, but I think it is time we start looking to cut the fat out of government.

If you are an elected official reading this, you are obligated to be fiscally responsible to me and my fellow citizens. Keep this at the forefront of all your decisions or we will ask someone else to represent us.
