Illinois needs reproductive health act

"From a teenage lover, to an unwed mother, kept undercover, like some bad dream. While unwed fathers, they can't be bothered, they run like water, through a mountain stream. " These lyrics from Tammy Wynette's 1983 album, "Even The Strong Get Lonely," embodies a repeated refrain, women remain the caregivers for their children regardless of how the child was conceived, or the fetus' viability.

Illinois has the opportunity to replace its 1975 reproductive health laws with the Reproductive Health Act (RHA). Gov. Pritzker's campaign promised to remove outdated restrictions regarding women's health options. Rep. Karina Villa knows that this most personal of decision must not be legislated, but rather decided between a woman and her health provider. We must hold the governor to this promise.

The Midwest is at the cusp on a women's health care crisis; Illinois needs to pass the RHA now. The membership of the Kane County Democratic Women is grateful to Rep. Villa and other members of the General Assembly for their support of IL-SB25.
