Huntley library is feeling the pinch

One size fits all? Not always! The present Huntley Library was built in 1998 to serve a community of less than 4,000 residents. In the last 20 years, that same library district has grown to include a population of 40,000.

Like a pair of too-tight shoes, however, the building itself has not grown and even with careful shepherding of services, the pinch is most definitely being felt - a too small children's department limited to only 12 people at one time, library patrons turned away from programs due to lack of space, staff sharing inadequate work areas, and three attached "trailers" that have outlived their legal usefulness and will shortly have to be removed from the square footage of the present building.

Is there a solution to these problems? Yes. A bond issue will be voted upon in the upcoming April 2 election. Average annual share for a district homeowner is the cost of a pleasant dinner out, or a trip to the movies for a family of four. We can pass the proposed bond issue - local money staying local for the benefit of the whole community.

Please contact the library with any referendum questions that you may have. You will receive factual, straightforward answers. Let's consider a "yes" vote for the enlargement and improvement of the Huntley Public Library, your library, our library - the time has come.
