Helmer should lead Prospect Heights another 4 years

I have lived in Prospect Heights for 46 years, and during that time we have had many fine mayors, but not one of them could list the accomplishments of our present mayor, Nick Helmer.

He is the epitome of what a municipal leader should be: honest, dedicated, effective, tireless and self-effacing. His governing philosophy has been informed by his years of experience in the private sector as a successful businessman.

Therefore I was shocked and appalled to see your editors endorse his opponent in the upcoming election. Your reasoning: Helmer, age 76, has been a fine mayor, but let's try somebody else, an 80-year-old alderman whose sole experience has been in the public sector.

Your endorsement is specious at best. It is tantamount to what happened to Winston Churchill, who brought Great Britain through World War II, and was then summarily cashiered by voters in the first election following the war's end.

I believe the citizens of Prospect Heights are far better qualified than your editors to decide who should lead us in the future, and I predict we will - by a landslide.
