Endorsements: Nesvacil, Owen for Arlington Heights Park Board

Three candidates are running in the April 2 election for two seats on the board of the Arlington Heights Park District, one of the oldest and largest park districts in the Chicago area.

Major improvements are taking place at the park district these days, most notably a renovation under way since last August at the Olympic Indoor Swim Center.

This is a professionally run district with a solid financial footing, as indicated by its AAA bond rating. It's supported by the public and overseen by a conscientious board.

For one of those seats, we endorse incumbent Rob Nesvacil, whose tenure dates back to 2003. Knowledgeable and committed, Nesvacil is responsive to community needs and understands that as the village ages, the park district must increasingly provide for multigenerational activities.

For the other spot on the board, we endorse Brian Owen, a member of the Arlington Lakes Golf Advisory Committee since 2014.

Owen is well versed on the challenges and opportunities in front of the park district and his financial background gives him special expertise that would be helpful as a commissioner.

Also running is Charles McLaughlin. a longtime resident of the community and longtime user of park services.

He's got a genuine interest in service, but the other two candidates have a better understanding of the issues.

Brian Owen is a candidate for Arlington Heights Park District board of commissioners.
