Endorsements: Steigert, Spella and Sosine for Algonquin village board

Algonquin is doing well. The village recently received a AAA bond rating from Standard & Poor's and property taxes have been flat or have decreased over multiple years.

The three board members running for re-election can share in the credit for the financial success.

Trustees John Spella, Jim Steigert and Debby Sosine are facing off against worthy challengers Cynthia Kanner, Bob Smith and Paulette Zolicoffer.

The three incumbents have served multiple terms, Steigert leads the way with 20 years of experience, steering the village through a sea of change.

The board has worked together on common goals. As the Route 31 bypass eased traffic through the center of town, the downtown was revitalized and has seen business growth, including new restaurants. Trustees hope opening the Longmeadow Parkway Bridge will also bring positive results to the area.

With the widening of Randall Road in addition to the other road construction, Steigert, Spella and Sosine have talked about focusing on building a strong infrastructure in Algonquin as the logical next step.

Steigert, who has been a part of the village's evolution over the past 20 years, is focusing on the East Side. There have been new businesses added to that side of town, but Steigert said there still is room to grow.

Sosine, who has served three terms, pointed to taking advantage of the business park to stay on top of financial issues, such as funding pensions. She is concerned with adding business and residential development to the East Side.

Spella said the challenge for the village of Algonquin is to stay on the path they have been on and continue the growth and financial decision making that got them this far.

We agree. And the best people to keep the village moving in the same direction are the trustees who have been doing it so far.

We endorse Steigert, Sosine and Spella for Algonquin village board.
