Endorsement: For Buffalo Grove trustee, Weidenfeld, Smith, Pike
Buffalo Grove will be losing one of the community's sharpest minds and ablest leaders after the April 2 election with the departure of Trustee Jeff Berman, who is not seeking re-election after 20 years in office.
Big shoes to fill.
Thankfully, the two incumbents in the race for three seats on the village board have displayed the talent and good judgment the village needs - and the potential to become even greater leaders in the future.
We endorsed David Weidenfeld four years ago because we were impressed by his analytical skills and collaborative nature. If, from all across the suburbs, we were picking a first-term trustee for top-rookie recognition, he likely would get the honor. He has excelled. Yes, of course we endorse him for re-election!
Meanwhile, Eric Smith, appointed in 2017 to fill an unexpired term, has performed admirably. He represents the community with calm demeanor and steady reason. He too receives our enthusiastic endorsement.
Beyond those two candidates, there is the slate of Rachel Hausman Masse, Tim Kobler and Larry Steingold and enthusiastic independents Soojae Lee, Adam Moodhe, Gregory Pike and Carolyn Pinta.
They're all good people; our choice is Pike. We think his financial and business background can be a solid asset and we're persuaded by his "fresh perspective, new voice and personal drive to make Buffalo Grove an exceptional village."
