Public auction and where the money went

Curiosity led me to the Hoffman Estates online auction site after reading of it in the Daily Herald.

Here's a snapshot of what I found. Bull's Black Jacket, DeMarini Baseball Bats, Tennis Racket, Ralph Lauren Boxers, Costume Jewelry, Yellow Michael Kors Purse, Cubs & Blackhawks Gloves, 5 pair of Women's Jeggings and 6 pairs of Men's Skinny Jeans. There is much more on the site but almost nothing that one would expect to find up for public auction by any municipality.

In light of property taxes due March 1 that are chasing people from the state and Palatine Public Library spending thousands to ask for millions, the Hoffman Auction items are not as shocking as they once would have been. The public domain is forever lost. It is easier to budget and ask for more money than put perfectly good merchandise to use. As citizens and voters, it is high time to look around and wonder "where does the money go?" In Illinois the answers are criminal but at the very least I know that someone in Crook County will be able to bust out of those Size 34 x 32 Men's' Distressed Skinny Jeans.

For a painful laugh, visit the site and see where all the money went.
